Jackets on the LitBuy spreadsheet: weight first, price second

Seventeen outerwear pieces, and the widest price spread on the sheet — from a light shell to a down-filled puffer. For outerwear the useful number is not the price, it is the fill weight.

Best value per dollar on the sheet — outerwear is where the price gap to retail is widest.

A jacket photo tells you the silhouette. It does not tell you whether the shell is 240 g/m² or 480 g/m², and that difference is the whole product. The rows I kept all had a weight or fill figure confirmed by the seller.

Most of these pieces run one size large because they are cut from the same pattern family. I note the exceptions in the FAQ rather than pretending there is a rule.

Where it goes wrong

Three places this tab gets people

  1. "Puffer" without a fill number

    Down and polyester fill look identical in a photo. Ask for the fill type and grams; a 200 g polyester jacket is a different product at the same price.

  2. Shoulder width is the only measurement that matters

    Chest measurements on outerwear are unreliable because the garment is worn over layers. Measure shoulder-to-shoulder on a jacket you own and match that.

  3. Shell colour under studio light

    Olive, taupe and grey shells photograph differently under white studio light. Ask for one photo in daylight before approving.

  1. Request the fill weight in grams before comparing two jackets on price.
  2. Match shoulder width, not chest circumference.
  3. For shells, confirm whether the seam tape is real or decorative.

Jackets questions

Which jackets on the sheet are actually warm?

Only the rows with a confirmed fill weight above roughly 300 g. Everything else is a shell or a light layer, and the sheet now labels it that way instead of calling every padded item a puffer.

Do LitBuy jackets run large?

Most of the outerwear here is cut from one pattern family that runs about one size large. The exceptions are the cropped styles, which run true.

How do I check a jacket in QC?

Zip it fully, photograph the seam tape at the shoulder, and ask for the inner label. A jacket with a detached seam tape looks perfect flat and fails in rain.
